The Artist

Mio Angela Gadon, a Perth-based illustrator and artist born in the Philippines and now an Australian, lived as a local for many years in Exmouth, Western Australia, home to the spectacular Ningaloo Reef that inspired many of her works about her love for the ocean and immigration.
Mio is a graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and Multimedia and is currently pursuing her Master's in Fine Arts at Curtin University in Western Australia. While design has been her profession, she has always viewed herself as an artist at heart.
During her time in Exmouth, Mio Angela Gadon was an active member of the local arts community through the Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre. Since 2019, she has regularly participated in the Art Quest and Exibald competitions. In 2022, she helped bring the Makers Film Festival to town, hosting a screening and leading a recycled art workshop. Her dedication resulted in her appointment as Art Gallery Manager that same year. Mio later served as a Gallery Associate at Gallery 6707 and continued her creative journey as the Arts Coordinator at the Canning Arts Centre in Riverton, Western Australia.
In 2023, Mio was honoured as one of the recipients of the Next Level Regional Grant from Regional Arts WA. This grant enabled her to hold an exhibition titled “Quarter Life Crisis: Between Having It All And Never Wanting Anything At All,” featuring the life of a young adult immigrant as a Creative Artist in a small regional town. Mio’s exhibition showcased a series of digital artworks, held from April 8 to 30, 2023, at the Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre. This exhibition provided Mio with the space, opportunity, and inspiration to present her creative side on a higher level.
Mio’s experience and knowledge as a designer and artist have grown significantly. This growth has inspired her as an artist to understand how intertwined design and art can be in everyday life, allowing her to create something meaningful from it.
