The Artist

Mio Angela Gadon, illustrator and artist, born in the Philippines, now an Australian, lived as a local for many years in Exmouth, Western Australia, home of spectacular Ningaloo Reef that inspired a lot of her works for the love of ocean and immigration.

Mio is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Graphic Design and Multimedia and currently taking her Postgraduate Certificate in Fine Arts at Curtin University, Western Australia. Design has been her trade; however, in her heart she has always considered herself as an artist.

Whilst living in Exmouth, Mio has also contributed to some of the yearly art competitions, events and initiatives held by the Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre, which is the hub of the art and crafts community. Since 2019 Mio has been an active participant and contributor in the yearly fundraising art competition, Art Quest and annual local portrait competition, Exibald.

Mio has been an active collaborator successfully holding a film showing of Makers Film Festival 2021. This event was presented in Exmouth during February 2022. Mio became one of the workshop hosts of the Makers Sessions, demonstrating the making of Cookie Cutters out of recycled drink cans.

In her free time, Mio attended art workshops and volunteers at Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre. Mio’s dedication and passion led her to attaining the position of Art Gallery Manager in 2022.

Mio’s most recent position was the Gallery Associate for Gallery 6707 in Exmouth, a photography and artwork gallery owned by Jess Hadden and Sadie James.

Mio’s professional work allows her to keep growing in the creative design field, and currently working as Arts Coordinator for Canning Arts Centre in Riverton, Western Australia.

In 2023 Mio was given the opportunity as one of the recipients of the Next Level Regional Grant, from Regional Arts WA. This grant allowed her to hold an exhibition titled “Quarter Life Crisis: Between Having It All And Never Wanting Anything At All”. Featuring the life of a young adult immigrant as a Creative Artist in a small regional town. Mio’s exhibition presented a series of digital artworks, held from 08-30 April 2023, at Exmouth Cultural Arts Centre. This exhibition gave Mio the space, opportunity, and inspiration to showcase her creative side on a higher level.

Mio’s experience and knowledge as a designer and an artist, has grown from attending various international design conferences, and extensive work experience. This has been a source of inspiration as an artist, to understand how vast design and art can correlate in everyday life and create something out of it.
